The Preface of my scify story

Preface
Earth as you once knew it no longer exists. The beautiful green and blue planet that was full of life is now a dry, barren wasteland. The once elegant, yet strong oceans that covered most of the planet have dried, leaving sand and dirt covering the face of the Earth. The vegitation and unique plants that made the Earth come to life, have burnt away y numerous widfires that combed through everything, leaving nothing but ashes in their trail. Swallowing the beauty with it's fearsome red flame. Nearly all the animals have gone extinct, with no water and no to plants to eat or fill the Earth with the much-needed oxygen.
Earth in no longer able to sustain life. The sun that once provided life and warmth to the inhabitants of the world, has become a deadly plague. Most of the human population has died, left to burn from the murderous rays from the sun.
Fortunately, some people were able to survive. Escaping on a ship to space, hoping to find somewhere, anywhere to call home. Destined to live among the stars.

This is just the beginning. If anyone even reads this, let me know what you think. I still have much more that I have written, just waiting to be shown to the world.

Burned

It was a fun vacation, he thought as the three if them piled into the car. It was time to return to reality. They had a long journey ahead of them and they were anxious to be done with it, to be able to sleep in their own beds for the first time in two weeks.

-- -- -- -- -- --

He could feel the immense heat burning into his flesh. Where is everyone? He thought. He tried to get out of the heat, but he was trapped. There was a scream, but he couldn't make out where it was coming from. It sounded like someone familiar was being tortured. He wanted to make the torture stop, but he was unable to move.

The heat disappeared, but he could still feel the searing pain all over his body. He was being lifted by something, but he was too out of it too try and figure out what it was, or where it was taking him.

Something bit him in the crease of his elbow and soon everything went dark.

-- -- -- -- -- --

He could finally open his eyes, but nothing seemed right. He was on a ship in the middle of the ocean, wearing an eye patch and pirate hat.

The wind hit him in the face, burning his eyes and his lungs when he tried to breathe in the air.

Mist from the water reached up and hit the air around him. He tried to feel it, but when he moved towards it, it pulled back, refusing to satisfy him with it's cool touch.

The sun beating down on him was fire on his skin. He could feel the burning rays as he tried relentlessly to immerse himself in the water. He closed his eyes in his frustration, and when he opened them again, the scene changed.

He was now in the middle of a scorching desert, pulling a handcart that sheltered all of his belongings. His family trudged on beside him. He looked around, searching for the two members missing from his party. He turned to his wife, tears streaking in the dirt on her face. He tried to ask her what had happened, seeing a burning pile from the corner of his eye, but there seemed to be something blocking his speech.

His surroundings changed again. To his right, the body of one of his sons was spralled across the
road, lying in a pool of red liquid. To his left was the overturned car, entrapping his other son. He
could hear the screaming again. It was coming from the car. He ran towards it. He had to try and
save him from suffering the same fate as the now lifeless body in the street. When he finally reached
it, it burst into flame and everything went black.

-- -- -- -- -- --

The massive pain began to return. Something changed. He was no longer in a fog, pain-free state. He forced his eyes open. In front of him was a nurse, maliciously holding a needle to his IV line. "He's trying to kill me!" He thought, "Why is no one trying to stop the?"

He Couldn't remember when it was, or what had happened since his camping trip in the redwoods.

He searched for a familiar face, but all he could see were the distorted faces of the monstrous nurses.

Just then, his beautiful wife walked into the room. He tried to reach out to her, but as soon as he raised his arm, he saw his blackened skin. He wanted to ask what was happening, but something was blocking his speech.

He glanced down and there was what seemed to be a snake in his mouth. He bit down on it hard, bitting it in half.

As soon as it was detached, his ability to breath became painful and barely there. The machines that he hadn't notices were attached to him started screaming.

-- -- -- -- -- --

They all sat around the campfire, all of them trying to keep warm in the unseasonably cool weather. He scanned the circle of family surrounding him. He didn't want to leave them. He loved his grandchildren very much, and with them living so far away, he hardly ever got to see them.

His sons, Hunter and Scott, sat next to him, roasting marshmallows.

"You're going to burn that," he informed Hunter

"I know, that's the way I like it," Hunter replied as he pulled out the flame-covered marshmallow.

He looked into the fire, mesmerized by the way it seemed to move on its own. It then started to change. Morphing back into another memory. A more recent, painful one.

He was standing in front of his burning expedition, trying to get the door open, ignoring the feeling of the flesh being burned off his hands and feet. He had to save him. He couldn't loose them both.

-- -- -- -- -- --

"Honey? Are you awake?" His wife asked him, pulling him away from his memories.

He looked up at her. He was still unable to talk, but there was no need to, she already knew what he wanted to ask.

"You were in a car accident, Scott fell asleep and the car rolled," she said, tears overflowing from her eyes. "No one else survived." He had to turn away; he was unable to bear the pain of remembering anymore. This would always be the reality he would wake up to. There would be no way to forget the pain of his loss.

Hidden Depression
You want me to talk about it?
About the constant pain
Caused by remembering
Unable to forget the loss
Always hurting inside
That's why I hide it from the world
Keep silent in my misery
Some say misery loves company
But I dont' want to share it
No one should hold theese feelings
No one should have to know
About the constant suffering
Willing the end to come
But unwilling to steel something else
From the ones I love
I can't talk about it
Just remembering brings the pain
The moister running down my face
I hate them
The tears
They betray that brave front
Showing my vulnerability
Just trying to live through it
Through life one step at a time
What's happened can't be rewond
The unshared story
Dying to get out
But I keep it trapped locked up
Away from those who try to see
Trying to be happy
Cause that's the only way to keep
From Crying
Trying to hide the stabbing I feel
A I even fooling you?
Is all my effort a waste?
No. It keeps me sane
Even if you see through
The mask I wear
Seeing through my cover
Through the forced smile
Under the happy
Smilig face
Hides a secret
A hidden depression
I wrote this because my mom thinks that I should talk about loosing my brothers more often. Because that's how she gets through it. And she doesn't think that I should keep it bottled up. Well this is why I keep it inside. I needed to write something inspired by a picture. And if you haven't read my other blog this is a picture that I took of my best friend. I thought that this poem and subject went well with this picture.

Solitude

Solitude
Standing strong
Out of the crowd
Being different
Who cares what they think
The robots of conformity
They don't matter
Their minds are lostin the worls
While you hold strong
Voicing your thoughts
doing the unpopular
Not to rebel,
But because you want to
Stand strong
Nothing can sway
Your strong roots
Showing how you feel
Showing who you really are
Nothing can stand in your way
You hold firm
Walk with a purpose
Unchanged by the world
A solid force
Trying to show people
That its good to be different
But no one listens
You stand alone
Tall and strong
In Solitude

The End
Is it here or there
Near or far
There is no way to be sure
It is undefined
The unseen force
Swaying everything in it's path
Leaving sadness and joy
It is coming
There is no way to escape
It continues Relentlesly
Making memories
It is the end

My New Poems

Gravestone
You mark what used to be,
You bring back the tears,
All the memories,
All my fears.
You’re beautiful,
But stand for something ugly.
I can’t bear to look at you,
Every time I do I can’t breathe.
You did nothing,
But the idea of you makes me cringe in sadness.
Seeing you in the graveyard is unbearable.

I’ll Miss You
The pain swells inside.
Can this be real?
Have you really died?
That stupid automobile.
I scream at the news,
Can’t even stop crying.
I won’t believe it,
I just can’t.
Picturing you lying,
Without a heartbeat.
I’ll miss you,
But now there’s nothing anyone can do.

Our First Kiss
Waiting in anticipation,
Will it be like a celebration?
My moment of pure delight,
Having only you in my sight.
You lean in and I know what’s coming,
Our lips touch and I can almost hear humming.
Fireworks explode in my head,
I was ready to be wed.

To You
You broke me like a toy.
I’m sliding into depression,
Only you could pull me out.
But you don’t care,
You don’t feel the pain.
I thought you said forever.
You’ve lost my trust.
I can’t love you anymore.

Urban Legand

I have this friend whose dad’s older brother’s best friend was there when this happened. But so like around 39ish years ago. I think it was the year the school first opened. There was a kid, his name was Calvin, and he went around breaking into lockers, taking whatever he wanted. And on every locker that he would break into, he would put the initials J.C. on it.
Well, one morning before school, some kid claimed to have seen the guy breaking into the lockers. He immediately ran to the main office to inform the principal. He ran into him and was all like, “I know who’s breaking into the lockers!” The principal took him into his office, and after about 10 minutes, he got over the intercom and was like, “Josh Christiansen, come to the main office right now.”
Josh was expelled from the school, and for a while the locker thefts stopped. Josh was so perturbed that he had gotten blamed for something that he had nothing to do with. So he started formulating a plan to get his revenge. After about two months, the thefts started happening again. So Josh started going to the school and spending the day there spying on his fellow students.
He waited two weeks before he finally caught the real thief in action. He was so upset and surprised at who it was. The person that had seen him decorating his girlfriend’s locker had been the real thief. He ran in and started yelling at Calvin. Calvin looked over and knew who it was, so he started running away. He turned the corner, and it was a dead end. He looked around and saw an Elevator, Josh was gaining on him, so he ran in. But the door didn’t close in time. Josh got in and started fighting with Calvin.
All Calvin wanted was to get out, so he kicked Josh in the balls and climbed out the elevator through the top. He ran a little ways, climbing over pipes. He saw a rope and was going to slide down it, but it got caught around his ankle. Josh came up to him hanging upside down. He had grabbed a knife. Calvin was so scared that he peed his pants, getting urine all over him, and the ceiling. Josh walked up to him and cut of his hands and said, “Now you can’t steal anything anymore.” And that is why there is a red and yellow spot on the ceiling outside of room 212.

My short story.

Susie May walked outside to her car, it was still dark outside and it had started to drizzle. She loved the rain. The feeling of water running down her cheeks and the smell of it made her feel comforted. She opened the door of her blue Ford Focus and got in the driver’s seat. She put the key in and turned the car on. The engine made a humming sound as she drove to Aaron’s house to pick him up. Aaron was one of her best friends. They had known each other their whole lives. He was tall and looked too skinny. He had light brown hair and dark green eyes. She pulled into his driveway and honked the horn. He opened his door and ran to her car, unlike her, he hated the rain.
“Hey Susie!” he exclaimed, “How was your night?”
“It was good. My mom took me to get a new outfit for church. What about you?” Susie replied.
“Oh, you know. Me and Richard got into another fight, but there’s nothing new about that.” Aaron didn’t get along with his dad very well. He was an alcoholic and sometimes when he would come home after a long night of drinking, he would hit his mom, Marie.
“What was it about this time?” She asked in exasperation. She didn’t like it when people fought. She saw it as a complete waste of time and energy.
“He tried to take money from me to spend at the bar, and I didn’t let him, so he got really mad. It’s pretty much what always happens though.”
“Did he hit you this time?”
“No, but he tried to hit my mom. I stopped him before he could though.”
“You really need to call the cops, this is getting really serious.”
“I know, but I will the next time it happens.”
“You always say that.”
“I do not… Ok… Maybe I do… But I Promise that I will next time.”
“Ok… Whatever you say.” She knew that he wouldn’t really call the cops. Even though he didn’t get along with his dad very well, he was still his dad and he still loved him. “So do you have any plans for this weekend?” She asked hoping that he would say nothing or ask if she wanted to do something with him. She has had a crush on him since the ninth grade, but she’s too afraid to tell him she has feelings for him because she doesn’t think that he feels the same way and it might ruin their friendship forever.
“I don’t know for sure yet, do you want to maybe do something?” What Susie didn’t know, was that Aaron did like her a lot and he was trying to work up the courage to asked her out, but just like her, he was scared about what she thought about him.
“That sounds great. What do you wanna do?”
“Um I don’t know… What do you wanna do?”
“Well we could go to my house and watch a move in our PJ’s if you want to.”
“That sounds like fun, do you think that you could pick me up around 5:30ish?”
“Yeah, no problem.” They pulled into the parking lot of their high school, it was fairly empty, because they usually got there thirty minutes early to talk to their other friends and catch up on homework that they didn’t have time to do the night before.
“Do you think that we should invite Jordyn? She might get a little upset if we don’t.” Aaron was hoping that for once, she wouldn’t say that they should. He really just wanted to see her, but Jordyn was one of their best friends, and it would be rude if they didn’t at least invite her.
Susie knew that Jordyn would want to come hang with them, but she was hoping that she would understand that she really wanted to be alone with Aaron just this once. “I’ll ask her if she wants to, but she might be busy.”
“Ok, well I have to hurry to one of my classes to make up a test I missed, but I’ll see ya later. Text me.”
Susie watched him walk off, wishing that they could be together, but knowing that it would never happen. She grabbed her stuff out of her trunk and slowly walked to the building, letting the rain fall on her, not caring about her hair or makeup getting ruined.
She walked into the girl’s bathroom and looked in the mirror at herself. Why doesn’t he like me? She thought. She thought that she had a fairly good appearance. She had long, wavy brown hair, and deep blue eyes, the only thing that she wished she could change were her eyes. She had always wanted to have emerald green eyes, like Aarons, but a bit brighter.
After fixing her hair and makeup, she walked to her locker where she always met Jordyn before school. They needed to talk about stuff that happened last night and Susie was planning on asking her if she would mind if she didn’t invite her to hang out with her and Aaron.
“Hey babe. What’s up?” Jordyn asked as Susie walked up to her locker.
“Nothing. Hey me and Aaron are planning on hanging out tonight, and I was wondering if you would mind if I didn’t invite you… I really just want to be alone with Aaron for a little while.”
“Well I was going to go on a date tonight anyways, so no, I don’t mind. What are you guys going to do?”
“I think we are just going to watch a movie in my basement. Who are you going on the date with?”
“I don’t know… my friend is setting me up on a blind double date. Hopefully it will be fun.”
“I bet you will have a ton of fun. You always do, no matter what it is you’re doing.” Susie said with a little laugh.
“Yeah, I do always have fun.” She said with a smile. “Well I have to get to Johnson’s class. I promised I would come in before school today to write that article for newspaper. So I’ll talk to ya later.”
* * * * * * * * * * * *
The bell rang to end another day of school. Susie hurried off to her family’s diner. The whole way there, she was thinking of something that she and Aaron could do other than just watch a movie.
She pulled into the parking lot of the diner, not even being able to remember driving there. She parked in the back, in the employee parking. She got out of her car and walked across the pavement to the entrance. The parking lot was littered with garbage; the employees were not very clean when it came to what they did after work. Susie wished that people would just pick up after themselves, it’s not that hard and it would make the world more beautiful.
“Hey mom, do you think that I could go home early tonight? Aaron is coming over and I need to get the basement ready.” She asked her mom as she walked through the door.
“If we’re not too busy, but we’ll need you to come in early tomorrow to make up your hours.” She replied.
“Ok, I can come in and help open tomorrow. Thanks mom.”
“You better get to work or I won’t let you leave.” Her mom said handing her an apron. Susie went to the back and put her name tag and the apron that her mom had given her. She loved working with her family. Her mom ran the diner, and her older brother Hunter and twin sister Samantha were waiters with her. They made working a lot of fun. The only thing she wished was different, was that her dad could work with them too. She hardly ever saw her dad. He was a lawyer and a big firm and had to work long hours.
She walked out to the front of the diner and got her tables that were assigned to her. There was an older couple sitting in one of her tables.
“How are you guys doing today?” She asked with a smile.
“We’re doing great.” The old man replied
“That’s good,” she said back, still smiling at them, “My name is Susie, and I’ll be your waiter. Can I get you something to drink?”
“Just water, for both of us.” The woman replied. The man did not look too excited about the decision.
“Alright, I will be back in a few minutes to take your order.” She said happily as she turned to get their drinks. As she walked the room seemed like it was spinning. She stopped for a minute and the sensation went away, so she went back to work.
As the day went on, she started to feel worse, and people were beginning to notice. Her once tan face was not as white as snow, and she had started to sweat, but she was shivering. She had even gone out to her car and gotten a jacket.
Her mom came over to her while she was finishing up with the older couple and pulled her aside. “Are you alright hun?” She asked worriedly.
“Yeah… I’m fine. Is it cold in here, or is it just me?” She replied through chattering teeth.
“No, it’s quite warm in here actually. I think you should go home and go to sleep. You don’t look so hot.”
“I’m fi…” she started to say as she collapsed. Her mom felt her face and it was ice cold.
“Susie? Susie wake up.” She said in vein as she desperately tried to get her daughter to respond. “Somebody call an ambulance!”

My Name, a vigmette

It sounds old and worn, like a rocking horse that’s been passed down through generations. When spoken alone it sounds so dull. But if you add something more, it can sound like a summer breeze. So natural and pleasant.
When I hear the sound of my full name, a panic rushes over me, like a wave over the sandy beaches. It means I’ve done something wrong. I don’t like my name. The sound of it makes feel as if it belongs to someone else. Someone more calm and collected, while I am wild and free spirited.
It was once my aunt’s name. But now it is mine, whether I want it or not. My name is Katherine. It is a maroon color. Nothing unique about how it looks. Just plain and boring. It doesn’t fit me. When I am around people I know, they call me Katie. Such a simple name. It is a yellow name that has been decorated in pink. There is more life to it. It is like the number 5. Right in the middle.
I would not change my name for anything in the world. Even if I don’t like it, it means something to my mother, and that means so much more to me than having any name in the world. But I think that if I had the choice of what to name me, I would have liked it to be Samantha, Sammi for short.
My name is Katherine, but I am known as Katie. It is who I am, and who I will always be. It defines the very essence of my soul. It is a Greek name that means pure.

This is a vignette that I wrote for a class

Some of my Early Poems

Darkness
Darkness is lonely and cold,
At least it's not to bold.
Remembering what's left behind,
Knowing what's to come isn't knid.
Never again to see the light,
Everything now gone from my sight.
Slipping slowly away,
Slowly slipping from the day.

Untitled
I ge sick just from the sight of you,
But I can't stop loving you.
I just want to leave you behind,
But can't get you out of my mind.
I'm always trying,
To keep from crying.
I cant get away from the pain,
But if I don't, I think I will go insane.

These were my two favorites that I wrote in the ninth grade. I have since written more, but I have yet to finish them. And I probably have lost them. Let me know what you think :)
